Cleaning carpets in Wing
Wing is an old village with generous rooms in it - deep lounges in the older houses, and a great many loose rugs laid over boards or over fitted carpet. Rugs make up about half of what we do here, and they are the thing people are most nervous about handing over, usually because somebody they know has ruined one at some point.
Most wool and synthetic rugs clean perfectly well where they lie. What we check first is the backing, the dyes and the fibre: a hidden corner damped and pressed with a white cloth tells us within a minute whether the colour is going to move. Rugs start at £25, and the £50 minimum applies to the visit rather than to each rug separately.
Viscose is the exception, and it is worth knowing about before you buy one rather than afterwards. It is sold as art silk or bamboo silk, it looks superb in a catalogue, and it goes stiff, yellow and matted the moment it gets properly wet. If yours is viscose we will tell you, and we will not pretend we can wet-clean it in your lounge.

Wing questions
The things people in Wing ask us most often.
Can a rug be cleaned in the house or does it have to go away?
Most wool and synthetic rugs are fine cleaned where they lie. We check the backing and test the dyes in a corner first. If one really needs a specialist we say so rather than take a risk on your floor.
What is art silk and why do you ask about it?
It is viscose, sold as art silk or bamboo silk. It looks like silk and behaves like paper once it is wet - stiff, yellow and matted. We will not wet-clean one, and anybody who says they happily would is worth avoiding.
How much for three rugs in one visit?
Rugs are from £25 each depending on size and fibre, so three is usually around £75. The £50 minimum applies to the visit and not to each rug, which is why having them done together makes sense.
Do you cover Wing and the villages towards Leighton Buzzard?
Yes - Wing, Cublington, Stewkley, Mentmore, Ledburn, Burcott, Crafton and Soulbury, and on into Leighton Buzzard and Linslade. We are in LU7 most weeks and there is no travel charge.
