Should I clean mud up straight away or wait for it to dry?
Wait until it is bone dry, then vacuum it. Attacking wet mud spreads it across a much larger area and drives it into the base of the pile, which turns a ten minute job into a proper one.
Why does a carpet get dirty again so quickly after cleaning?
Usually residue left down in the pile. Detergent that has not been rinsed out stays tacky and grabs hold of soil. We rinse thoroughly for that reason, and it is why a proper clean stays clean longer than a hired machine manages.
