Cleaning carpets in Chinnor
Chinnor sits directly beneath the chalk escarpment and the village has grown a long way out from its old core into post-war and modern family estates. Wherever you happen to be in it, the ground under your feet is chalk, and chalk on a carpet is nothing like ordinary soil. It dries to a fine pale powder, so it is at its worst on dark carpet and almost invisible on cream.
Most people manage to make it worse before they ring us. A damp cloth turns chalk powder into a slurry, which spreads outwards into a ring and drives the rest of it down into the base of the pile where a vacuum cannot reach. The powder is mildly abrasive as well, so working it in with a cloth does more lasting harm than the original mark ever would have done.
The order that works is dry, vacuum, then extract. Let it go completely dry even while it looks terrible, vacuum it hard in more than one direction to lift the loose powder off, and let us take out whatever is bonded into the fibre with hot water. Doing it in that order is the difference between a clean carpet and a pale shadow that keeps reappearing every few weeks.

Chinnor questions
The things people in Chinnor ask us most often.
Pale dust keeps showing on our dark carpet - where is it coming from?
The chalk under the escarpment, almost certainly. It dries to a light powder that shows up on dark pile and hides on light. It comes out properly with extraction, once the loose powder has been vacuumed off first.
I tried a damp cloth and it left a ring - can that be fixed?
Usually yes. A ring is chalk pushed outwards and downwards by the water. Extraction lifts it back out in one go. Next time let it dry and vacuum it instead - that alone takes off most of what is there.
Which parts of Chinnor and the nearby villages do you cover?
All of OX39, including Kingston Blount, Crowell, Henton, Emmington and Sydenham, plus Bledlow, Bledlow Ridge and Princes Risborough just over the county line. There is no travel charge on any of it.
Does chalk damage a carpet or does it only mark it?
Both, slowly. It is mildly abrasive, so left sitting in the base of the pile it wears the fibre down with every footstep. Regular cleaning here is genuinely about keeping the carpet, not only about how it happens to look.
