Cleaning carpets in Oxford
Oxford is a city of terraces. The streets behind the colleges, Jericho, Osney, Grandpont and most of East Oxford towards Cowley, are Victorian and Edwardian two-up two-downs with narrow halls and steep original staircases. A great many have been divided into flats or let room by room, and that tells you more about the state of the carpet than the age of the house ever will.
Shared houses wear carpet in a particular pattern. The hall and the stairs take every tenant's footfall while the bedrooms stay comparatively clean, so a landlord often needs the route through the house done rather than the whole property. Hall, stairs and landing is £75, and on a four or five bedroom let that is usually the sensible annual job.
Changeover season is tight here, and most student tenancies end within the same couple of weeks. Carpets have to come back to the condition written in the inventory, and a dated receipt settles a deposit argument before it has a chance to start. If you give us the changeover date when you book, we work to it rather than to whatever suits our diary.

That is a good deal of what we do here in July and August. Give us the changeover date and the room list and we will work to it, and you get a dated receipt in the right name for the inventory.
The stairs in our terrace are steep and narrow - is that a problem?
No. Stairs are cleaned by hand with a small tool, tread by tread, so the width makes very little difference. A steep flight takes a bit longer, and that is already allowed for in the £35 stair price.
Is it worth cleaning the carpet in a room that is let out?
Usually. A bedroom is £30 and the point of it is removing the grit that flattens the pile. That is what decides whether a let carpet looks finished after four years or after eight.
