Bicester has grown faster than almost anywhere else we work, and the floors show it. There is the old market town in the middle, with narrow-fronted property and staircases put in long before anyone thought about a vacuum cleaner, and then there are the very large new estates around the edge at Kingsmere, Graven Hill and Elmsbrook, where every house was carpeted by the same developer in the same year.
Developer carpet is a specific job. It is nearly always a pale, soft polypropylene, chosen because it shrugs off a spilled drink and costs little to fit. What it does not shrug off is the greasy soil walked in from pavements and driveways, which it holds onto stubbornly. The result is a carpet that goes flat and grey all over rather than developing obvious marks, and no amount of vacuuming brings it back.
Because so much of the housing here has changed hands recently, we do a steady run of moving-in and moving-out work. A carpet cleaned before the furniture arrives is the easiest job in the trade and much the best value - an open floor, nothing to work around, and the whole house done in one visit. If you are on the way out instead, ask for a dated receipt and keep it with the inventory.

Do you come out to the new estates on the edge of Bicester?
Yes - Kingsmere, Graven Hill, Elmsbrook and the older streets in the middle of the town are all OX26 and all in our normal area. There is no travel charge and no call-out fee wherever you are in Bicester.
The carpet came with the house and already looks tired - is it just cheap?
It is usually a mid-range polypropylene, which is a sensible fibre treated badly. Dull means greasy soil rather than wear. A degreasing pre-spray and proper heat normally takes most of it back, and cleaning it early is what gets the years out of it.
Can you clean a house we have just bought, before we move in?
That is the ideal time. With nothing in the rooms we clean right to the skirting, it dries faster with the doors open, and you start with the previous owner's soil gone rather than living on top of it. A lounge, hall, stairs and landing is £115.
Do you charge extra for a big open-plan downstairs?
Rooms larger than a standard lounge are priced on request and measured on the day, so you get a firm figure before we start rather than a surprise at the end. A standard lounge is from £40 and a dining room from £35.
