Carpet Cleaning in Harpenden
Merlin's Carpet Cleaning covers Harpenden and the villages around it — large commuter houses, good wool carpet and rugs worth taking seriously. We are family run with over ten years behind us, our prices are the ones on the list with nothing added afterwards, and every quote is free.
Cleaning carpets in Harpenden
Harpenden has some of the best carpet on our southern list, and that is not a compliment to the town so much as a note about how we have to work. There is a lot of wool here, a lot of good rugs, and a lot of houses where the flooring cost more than a small car.
Wool and hand-made rugs both punish carelessness. High pH dulls wool and can felt it, over-wetting shrinks it, and an untested dye on a good rug will bleed into the next colour and stay there. We check the fibre, check the backing and test the dyes in a hidden spot on every job, without exception.
The houses are also large, so rooms get quoted individually rather than at the standard rate. You get the figure before we start.

Harpenden questions
The things people in Harpenden ask us most often.
How do you decide what to use on an expensive wool carpet?
By identifying the fibre and checking the dyes first, then matching the pH and the moisture to it. Wool wants neutral or slightly acidic chemistry, never the alkaline degreasers a synthetic carpet needs.
Will you test a valuable rug before cleaning it?
Always, in an inconspicuous corner. If we think a rug is too delicate or too likely to bleed to clean safely in the home, we will tell you rather than risk it.
Do you cover Batford, Southdown and Wheathampstead?
Yes, along with Kinsbourne Green, Hatching Green and Coldharbour. All AL5 and the surrounding lanes, no travel charge.
Our rooms are large - will the standard prices apply?
Larger rooms are quoted individually on floor area. We give you the real figure on the phone rather than a standard price that changes when we arrive.
