Why has a stain come back two days after it was cleaned?
Wicking. The spill went deeper than the surface, into the backing or the underlay, and it travels back up the fibres as the carpet dries. It needs flushing and extracting properly rather than treating on the surface.
Does shampooing a carpet make it dirty faster afterwards?
It can. Detergent left in the pile stays tacky and collects soil from every footstep, so the carpet greys up again quickly. Hot water extraction rinses and removes rather than leaving anything behind in the fibre.
Can you get out a mark somebody else has already had a go at?
Usually, and do tell us what was used on it. Previous products change what works. An old bleach mark is permanent colour loss, but residue and resoiling flush out well and look dramatically better afterwards.
