Cleaning carpets in Olney
Olney sits on the Great Ouse, and the meadows below the bridge flood most winters. That does not put water in your hall, but it does keep the air damp for weeks at a time, and damp air is the single biggest thing that slows a carpet down after cleaning. A floor that would be dry in four hours in July can take most of a day in February.
In winter we work the other way round. More vacuuming before, a longer pre-spray dwell so the machine has less to flush out, slower passes with more suction on the way back, and windows cracked open at opposite ends of the room to get some air moving. It is not glamorous, but it is the difference between a carpet that is dry by teatime and one that is still cool the next morning.
Housing here is mostly limestone and brick, Georgian fronts around the market place with cottages behind and newer closes on the edges. Old houses move, and that means skirting gaps, draughts along the bottom of doors and cold spots in corners. Those corners hold moisture, so they are where we spend the extra minute with the hand tool rather than assuming the room will even itself out.

Olney questions
The things people in Olney ask us most often.
Does the damp air round here change how long drying takes?
In cold damp weather allow most of a day, against three or four hours in summer. We use as little water as the job needs and take extra dry passes. Keeping the heating on low and a window ajar makes more difference than anything else.
Do you come out to the villages the other side of the Ouse?
Yes - Emberton, Clifton Reynes, Weston Underwood, Lavendon, Warrington, Sherington, Stoke Goldington and Newton Blossomville are all on our normal round. No travel charge and no call-out fee anywhere in MK46.
Can you clean a wool carpet in an old house without shrinking it?
Yes. Wool needs controlled moisture and a cleaning solution on the acid side, which is what we use. The risk comes from soaking a carpet and leaving it wet, so we extract hard and keep the dwell time short on wool.
Is there a minimum spend if I only want one room done?
There is a £50 minimum on carpets, rugs and upholstery. A single bedroom at £30 or a hall at £20 would come up to that, so most people add the stairs or a rug and get more for the money.
